Psychotherapy and the Fully Functioning Person $32.68 Jules Seeman is one of the earliest representatives of humanistic-experiential psychotherapy and research. He is the recipient of numerous local and national honors, including the American Psychological Association Division 32 Carl Rogers Award for his outstanding contribution to the profession and practice of humanistic psychology. Dr. Seeman spent six years with Carl Rogers at the University of Chicago Department of Psychology and the Counseling Center, and then came to Peabody College of Vanderbuilt University. In his work, he was especially drawn to the area of what Rogers referred to as the "fully functioning person" and over a lifetime of research and practice, developed the "human system model" of psychotherapy and optimal functioning. In the present volume, Dr. Seeman illustrates how central elements of a person's behavioral systems are integrally linked, and how it should be possible to intervene at different points of the human system to affect other behavioral systems within the person. Using detailed narratives and integrates an understanding of therapy and research in a way that exemplifi es the scientist-practictioner model. Dr. Seeman provides a well conceptualized and empirically supported view of what makes the human system function well and thus for understanding the place of psychotherapy in enhancing personal efficacy. |

Beginners' Hand-Book of Chemistry: The Subject Developed by Facts and Principles Drawn Chiefly from the Non-Metals $33.24 PREFACE. THIS book has been prepared as a popular introduction to the study of chemistry. It is probably needless to recommend the sub- ject. Chemistry is recognized as a science of such general interest, such wide usefulness, and such universal application, that no intelligent person can endure long to remain ignorant of its principal facts and laws. Thisbook treats principally of the non-metals it is believed to be the verdict of authors and teachers of experience that these furnish the most suitable material for a beginner in the the fundamental facts study of chemistry these best present and principles of the science, and they do it in connection with objects and phenomena easily accessible to almost every civilized human being. The author contemplates the preparation hereafter of a book of similar general character, only having its principal facts drawn from the chemistry of the metals. In writing this book it has been the effort to treat the subject in a style that shall be attractive to the general reader but it is believed that in no case has scientific fact been sacri- ficed in the interest of popular form. The arrangement of matter in the book is in accordance with the following plan After the introductory chapters, which present the general principles of chemical action, the chiefnon-metals are treated in a scientific order as follows the monads, hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and fluorine 980 PREFACE. then the dyads, oxygen and sulphur next the triads, boron, nitrogen, phosphorus finally the tetrads, carbon and silicon thus including the four great groups into which the non- metals are naturally arranged. Most of the experiments described are such as may be performed by any one possessed of reasonable skill it is believed that they will afford profitable instruction as well as entertainment. Least Developed Countries $125.85 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are countries which according to the United Nations exhibit the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development, with the lowest Human Development Index ratings of all countries in the world. A country is classified as a Least Developed Country if it meets three criteria based on: lowincome human resource weakness and economic vulnerability. Countries may graduate out of the LDC classification when indicators exceed these criteria. The United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States coordinates UN support and provides advocacy services for Least Developed Countries. The classification currently applies to 49 countries. In 2007, the United Nations graduated Cape Verde from the category of Least Developed Countries. This is only the second time it has happened to a country. The first country to graduate from LDC status was Botswana in 1994. Samoa may become the third country to graduate in this manner, with a decision on this issue initially scheduled for 2008. As of February 2009, the decision on Samoas status was still pending. Rudimentary (Very Imperfectly Developed) $24.79 "The pieces you are about to read are not just poetry. These pieces are my diary. It is a growing experience for me and hopefully for you too. Some of the pieces are riddles ... Some of the pieces are to be taken literally; others are not. You decide." - Jesse Cougot This is a collection of poetry about the trials and tribulations of a young man's life. The compelling prose addresses confusion, meditation, spirituality (or sometimes lack thereof), sexuality, anger, resentment, love, lust, freedom, heaven, hell, masochism, suicidal tendencies, suicidal attempts, actual suicide, politics, and all the other ways the young author has chosen to express his emotions, both positive and negative. Readers will find it difficult to put down Rudimentary, one man's deeply moving expressions of his personal life experiences. Between February 1999 and December 2002, author Jesse Cougot experienced a poetic journey that spanned from Houston to Orlando, Florida, and resulted in Rudimentary: very imperfectly developed, a collection of poetry. Cougot has plans to pen a follow-up to this collection, as well as to write other genres of books and create a screenplay. He now resides in Orange, Virginia. Flesh-And-Blood Jesus: Learning to Be Fully Human from the Son of Man $3.95 Christians usually do not find it difficult to see Jesus as God. But many are lacking in their understanding of Jesus as human, resulting in a stunted view of what it means for us to be human. But a well-developed understanding of Jesus's humanity can show us the essential differences between being human and being sinners. In Flesh-and-Blood Jesus, Dan Russ helps readers get to know Jesus Christ more fully through reflecting on his humanity. He reminds readers that God created them to be human and that, through his sacrifice, Christ redeems them back into his design for them as fully human. Russ also explores the inevitable tensions of being human in a fallen world and being sinful, showing readers that making mistakes and having limits are not sins. Chapter-end questions make this book ideal for personal and small group study. |

Public Enterprise in Less Developed Countries $47.54 This volume consists of papers chosen from the Boston Area Public Enterprise Group Conference that was held in 1980 and concentrated on public enterprises in less-developed countries. The Boston Area Public Enterprise Group is composed of scholars dedicated to understanding the public enterprises operating in the world's mixed economies. Public enterprises are government-owned firms that sell goods or services in a market. Involved in public production for private consumption, they are a hybrid of government and private enterprise. Thus, an analysis of public enterprise requires insights from economics, management, political science and law. Each of these disciplines is represented in addressing the following questions: Why public enterprise? Who should control public enterprise? How are decisions made in practice? How do public enterprises behave in international markets? How does risk and uncertainty alter public enterprise decisions'? How are incentive structures to be designed'? How do public enterprises compare with other public policy tools for dealing with particular problems'? The contributions combine theory and practice in analysing a variety of less-developed countries. |
