A Darker Domain

A Darker Domain

$9.99

Past and present intertwine in this rare stand-alone novel of taut psychological drama-a brilliant exploration of loyalty and greed from the bestselling mistress of suspense. Fife Scotland 1985. Heiress Catriona Maclennan Grant and her baby son are kidnapped. The ransom payoff goes horribly wrong and Grant is killed. Her son disappears without a trace-until 2008 when a tourist in Tuscany stumbles upon dramatic new evidence that reopens the investigation. Fife 1984. At the height of the politically charged national miners' strike Mick Prentice abandons his family to join the strikebreakers down south. Labelled a blackleg scab he's as good as dead as far as his friends and relatives care. Twenty-three years later a young woman walks into a police station to report Mick Prentice missing. Detective Karen Pirie head of the Cold Case Review Team wants to know why it's taken so long for anyone to notice. For Pirie already immersed in the Prentice investigation a second foray into a 1980s investigation gone cold-this time the Grant kidnapping-offers an opportunity to make her mark. But it's sure to come at an extremely high price. As she works to unravel these mysteries two decades of secrets will lead Karen Pirie into a dark domain of violence and betrayal-darker than any she has yet encountered.

Reusing Domain Ontologies.

Reusing Domain Ontologies.

$115.71

The increasing interest in the semantic web is producing a growing number of publicly available domain ontologies. These ontologies are a rich source of information that could be helpful during the process of engineering other domain ontologies. Existing ontologies could be reused in whole or in part to bootstrap the creation of ontologies for new semanticsaware applications. We introduce automatic techniques to select an existing ontology that is most closely related to the domain of a given small set of Web documents. One common way for users to organize personal interests is to categorize information by topics. Each area of interest could be represented either by a simple concept label or by more complex information structures that include concepts linked to each other by user defined relationships. This type of information structure could be easily represented by domain ontologies. We need automatic tools that help nonexpert users build and maintain their own ontologies. The techniques explored and described in this dissertation can make this process more accessible. Based on the proposed algorithms we implemented miology a Webbased demonstration application that shows how our approach can work to maintain personal user interests. The fortunes of war in 1862 find Sergeant John Mulroy captured by Confederate regulars. As a prisoner he is sent to Andersonville Prison for the duration of the conflict. Thousands of Union Army prisoners mill about in the acres of open space, surrounded by a stockade fence armed by Confederate guards. The miasma of unwashed bodies, excrement, gangrene, decay, and death combine to take Mulroy's breath away. Disease and violent death are daily visitors among the prison's ranks. Captain Henri Wirz, a foreigner in the Confederate Army, was shot in the arm and forced to give up field service, so he was put in charge of the prison. Men who get near the stockade wall are shot by the prison guards. There is not enough food so men who do not die of their wounds are slowly being starved to death. Mulroy is determined to escape, and befriends Cal Blackwood, a Confederate irregular who is one of the guards. A part of Cal wants to run with Mulroy, another part wants to make his flight secure by killing him. Tim Champlin was born John Michael Champlin in Fargo, North Dakota. He began his Western writing career with "Summer of the Sioux" in 1982.

Domain-Specific Languages

Domain-Specific Languages

$53.68

When carefully selected and used, Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) may simplify complex code, promote effective communication with customers, improve productivity, and unclog development bottlenecks. In "Domain-Specific Languages," noted software development expert Martin Fowler first provides the information software professionals need to decide if and when to utilize DSLs. Then, where DSLs prove suitable, Fowler presents effective techniques for building them, and guides software engineers in choosing the right approaches for their applications. This book's techniques may be utilized with most modern object-oriented languages; the author provides numerous examples in Java and C#, as well as selected examples in Ruby. Wherever possible, chapters are organized to be self-standing, and most reference topics are presented in a familiar patterns format. Armed with this wide-ranging book, developers will have the knowledge they need to make important decisions about DSLs-and, where appropriate, gain the significant technical and business benefits they offer. The topics covered include: - How DSLs compare to frameworks and libraries, and when those alternatives are sufficient - Using parsers and parser generators, and parsing external DSLs - Understanding, comparing, and choosing DSL language constructs - Determining whether to use code generation, and comparing code generation strategies - Previewing new language workbench tools for creating DSLs

Dea Applications in the Product Design Domain

Dea Applications in the Product Design Domain

$103.56

In the engineering design domain, product design process is a major focus. In this process, product designs are conceived through several consecutive stages, where several decision making tools are deployed. Decision making in such settings involves a variety of complexities such as uncertainty, or ambiguity of available data, or missing information. Despite these complexities, however, designers and manufacturers need to make appropriate decisions to prevent from design failures, and achieve success in the marketplace. Accordingly, decision makers require an effective tool to assist them in making appropriate decisions. In this work, we introduce data envelopment analysis (DEA) to the product design domain for solving problems in two important focus areas: conceptual design problems and product family design problems. DEA has been widely applied in various fields and has been proved to be effective. In the book, we provide DEA implementations on three case studies to demonstrate its applicability in the product design domain. The results of the case studies reveal that DEA is effective in generating appropriate product design strategies. Domain-Specific Development with Visual Studio DSL Tools

Domain-Specific Development with Visual Studio DSL Tools

$53.73

Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs)--languages geared to specific vertical or horizontal areas of interest--are generating growing excitement from software engineers and architects. DSLs bring new agility to the creation and evolution of software, allowing selected design aspects to be expressed in terms much closer to the system requirements than standard program code, significantly reducing development costs in large-scale projects and product lines. In this breakthrough book, four leading experts reveal exactly how DSLs work, and how you can make the most of them in your environment. With "Domain-Specific Development with Visual Studio DSL Tools," you'll begin by mastering DSL concepts and techniques that apply to all platforms. Next, you'll discover how to create and use DSLs with the powerful new Microsoft DSL Tools--a toolset designed by this book's authors. Learn how the DSL Tools integrate into Visual Studio--and how to define DSLs and generate Visual Designers using Visual Studio's built-in modeling technology.
